Zanclidae - Moorish Idol

The Moorish idol, Zanclus cornutus ("crowned scythe"), is a small marine fish species and the sole representative of the family Zanclidae. With distinctively compressed and disk-like bodies, Moorish idols stand out in contrasting bands of black, white, and yellow, which makes them attractive to aquarium keepers. They however do not fair well in captivity, exhibiting short life spans. Moorish Idols, like butterflyfish are often seen in pairs and mate for life. The images here are from Sipadan Island, Malaysia and Coiba Island, Panama.
